Vieste sits right at the tip of the “spur” of Italy, on the Adriatic Sea, and is the perfect vacation town. Among its white Mediterranean-style houses and its beaches to the north and south, you’ll find several fascinating sites.
Notable is the white cliff of Pizzomunno, tied to the tragic love story of the young sailor Pizzomunno and his beloved Cristalda. In the town center, visit the Chianca Amara (“Bitter Rock”) and learn about the 16th-century siege. Explore the Shell and Mollusk Museum, and just outside the city, you’ll find an ancient necropolis with burial caves.
Don’t miss wandering through the alleys and strolling along the seafront promenade, which begins at Piazza Kennedy. You can also rent a boat from the marina to explore the beautiful sea caves along the Gargano coast.
