A visit to Bari’s newly renovated theater is not to be missed. It’s considered new because it was restored after a fire in 1991 and only reopened to the public in 2009. Construction began in 1898, and it was first inaugurated in 1903. It is the fourth-largest theater hall in Italy. The name Petruzzelli comes from two businessmen who presented the city of Bari with the architect Angelo Cicciomessere’s design—he was the husband of their sister. The interior of the theater is beautiful, featuring decorated boxes, an illuminated dome, and elegant corridors. The tour includes a local guide.
