The large city hall is located on Via Roma at one corner of Piazza Giacomo Matteotti. Its other name is Palazzo Bacaredda, after Ottone Bacaredda, the mayor who in the 19th century moved the city offices to this building from another district of the city.
The facade features seven arches in addition to the large central arch, all situated above the Porticato, a long arched corridor. Above the central arch rise two octagonal columns, and at the building’s corners stand four obelisks, each topped with four Moorish figures with covered eyes—symbols that also appear on the flag of the Sardinia region. Additionally, bronze statues and symbols decorate the structure.
