The church of the “separation” — Steccata — got its name due to the need to create a separating fence (a kind of partition) in its early years because of the crowd rushing to see the special painting of the nursing Madonna.
Since then, the church has grown and been enriched with many works of art, such as the amazing fresco painting by Michelangelo Anselmi on the apse ceiling.
The church mainly attracts visitors thanks to the famous painting by Parmigianino — The Wise Virgins and the Foolish Virgins.
