The last church designed by Giuseppe Zimbalo, the great Baroque architect, and where he is also buried. It was built in the 18th century on the foundations of a 14th-century church, during a period when Dominican monks arrived in the city.
The façade is very impressive, with prominent columns decorated with intricate scrollwork at the entrance, and numerous statues standing to welcome visitors at its gates. The façade was designed to appear concave, in true Baroque fashion.
The interior of the church is shaped like a Greek cross and decorated with figures and works from the New Testament.
Particularly interesting is the pulpit, carved with depictions from the vision of the Apocalypse—the only one in Lecce’s churches made of stone.
