Loreto is famous as a pilgrimage site because, according to tradition, it houses the original home of the Virgin Mary. The basilica where the house is located is notable for its size and its position on a hill. Within the large complex, visitors can see the original walls of the house, the famous Black Madonna statue, and a large marble casing decorated with sculptures that depict the story of how the building was brought to Loreto by angels.
