Recommended Restaurants in Rome – 8 Trattorias You Must Bookmark!

You’ve arrived in Rome? Looking for recommended restaurants? Want to taste the authentic flavors of Roman cuisine? Overwhelmed by a sea of recommendations?

Roman cuisine has preserved its flavors for hundreds and thousands of years. Traditional cooking. Home-cooked meals like those from local Roman grandmothers are hard to find in the Eternal City. Such restaurants, like those of the past, are a rare commodity. That’s why the Elora team has gathered the best options for you.

We detailed the types of restaurants and dishes in Italy in a post that you should read again.

Here are 8 recommended restaurants in Rome (this time trattorias) where you will truly experience how all the flavors of Rome come straight to your palate…

Nannarella Roma

Address: Piazza DI S. Calisto, 7/a,

Tel: +39065378581

In the heart of the Trastevere neighborhood, one of the local Romans’ favorite hangouts, is a trattoria that you cannot miss. It is currently one of the most sought-after places in the city and has every reason to be so. Simplicity and quality are the winning cards of the trattoria that has been operating in the same location for almost 100 years. If the locals keep flocking there, there must be a reason. Warning – the food is delicious but so are the lines. Reservations are a must through the website.

From Gino to the Parliament

Address: Vicolo Rosini, 4

Tel: +39066873434

Close to the Italian Parliament, a short walk from the Pantheon and Montecitorio Square, lies the Roman institution that no local politician has not dined at. There are permanent tables for celebrities, and you can see who dined and at which table on the map illustrated at the entrance. The waiters have been there for years, which is part of its Roman charm. It’s the essence of Rome. A must!

Trattoria Al Tettarello

Address: Via dei Capocci, 4

Tel: +39064742130

In the small and unique Monti neighborhood, away from the tourist crowds yet still in the heart of the city. Just a 10-minute walk from Viale dei Fori Imperiali. A wonderful and family-run small trattoria serving Roman dishes. The Cacio e Pepe pasta is a must-try, and the pizza is superb. Worth it!!

Tonnarello

Address: Via della Paglia 1

Tel: +39065806404

In the Trastevere neighborhood, halfway between Piazza Trilussa (where you’ll find all the young people of the city) and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. This Roman trattoria will make you feel like you’re in the home of the locals. The plates, the unique presentation, and the food. Oh, the Tonnarelli alla Carbonara and oh, the Saltimbocca alla Romana, and how I crave their tiramisu. Reservations are a must!!! Otherwise, there’s no chance….

Trattoria Da Enzo al 29

Address: Via dei Vascellari, 29

Tel: +39 06 581 2260

One of my favorite trattorias. Small (8 tables), at the southern end of the less touristy Trastevere neighborhood, the stuffed zucchini flower with anchovies or mozzarella is the best I’ve ever had, the Jewish Roman-style artichoke just like my grandmother used to make, the rigatoni in amatriciana sauce are perfect, and the meatballs in the best sauce ever. It’s a place I always return to…

Trattoria Sora Lella

Address: Via di Ponte Quattro Capi, 16

Tel: +39 06 686 1601

On Tiberina Island, in the heart of the Tiber River, exactly halfway between Piazza Campo de’ Fiori and the Trastevere neighborhood. Just a 5-minute walk from the Jewish Ghetto, you will find the excellent Roman trattoria Trattoria Sora Lella. The suppli (Roman rice balls) are perfect, Tonnarelli cacio e pepe con Menta Romana – a winning pasta dish, and the Trippa alla Romana is the most Roman dish you can get. Don’t miss it.

Osteria da Fortunata

Address: Via del Pellegrino, 11/12

Phone: +390660667391

If you ask local Romans where to eat authentic Roman home-cooked food, many of them will recommend Osteria da Fortunata. Just two minutes’ walk from Campo De’ Fiori Square. The mamas making the pasta right in front of this lovely osteria are the first sign that you’ve arrived at the right place. Perfect.

Flavio al Velavevodetto

Address: Via di Monte Testaccio, 97

Tel: +39065744194

The Testaccio neighborhood is the area for young people in Rome. The hippest and coolest. It is one of the main spots for food tours in the city. Located in the southern part of Rome is one of the best local restaurants Flavio al Velavevodetto. If you want to taste the most Roman and typical pasta dish, Alla carbonara, there is no doubt this is one of the safest places to try it. Perfect.
