Near the city of Rimini, close to the independent Republic of San Marino, lies the small hilltop town of Verucchio. It is known for the Etruscan remains discovered in the area, which are displayed in the local museum, as well as for being the first stronghold of the powerful Malatesta family, who ruled and influenced the entire region. From the Malatesta fortress, one can enjoy a magical, calming, and peaceful view of the surrounding hills and the Marecchia River Valley (valle del fiume Marecchia).
