Town Hall and the ‘Militi’ Loggia

tel: +39-0372 407267

Address: Piazza del Comune, 26100 Cremona

The Town Hall was built at the beginning of the 13th century and stands prominently opposite the cathedral. The contrast between them is expressed in the architecture – a two-story structure with arches and a red-painted lower assembly hall, facing the cathedral’s gleaming white facade. In the upper rooms are several chambers, the most important of which is the Violin Hall, displaying one of the city’s most prominent symbols – a collection of violins crafted by its finest and most renowned artisans.

Next to this building stands the Loggia dei Militi, designed in a similar style, which once served as a military gathering place before setting out for war. In its lower hall, another symbol of the city can be found – Hercules, the legendary founder of the city, holding in his hand the emblem of the municipality.
