Soncino is a town in the heart of the Po Valley, less than an hour’s drive from Cremona. Its highlight is the Printing Museum – Casa degli Stampatori, located in its center in a reddish medieval building. In Soncino, a Jewish family that had arrived from Germany established a printing press that became world-renowned. The museum tells the fascinating story of the development of printing, with the first major step being the printing of the Bible in several languages.
Also worth a visit is the local fortress (Rocca di Soncino), which forms part of the town walls, with its decorated rooms, panoramic views, and the surrounding green lawns. The town also boasts several churches with interesting architecture and interiors, such as the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta, notable for its blue starry ceiling.
