This quiet seaside town lies in the Nardò area along the coast. There are two recommended sites to visit here:
The Displaced Persons Camp site (1943–1947) – After World War II, this camp hosted survivors of the concentration camps. Here, the “Udim” School was established, where hundreds of children received education and preparation for their future in the Land of Israel. Today, the site houses a museum dedicated to the thousands of Holocaust survivors who passed through Santa Maria al Bagno on their way to Israel after the war.
Torre del Fiume di Galatena – A historic watchtower, one of many built along the Salento coastline, which still stands as a reminder of the region’s defensive past.
