San Giorgio Castle sits at the top of La Spezia’s main hill, known as Poggio. It’s worth climbing up not only to explore the castle but also to enjoy panoramic views of the city and its colorful rooftops, which appear stacked one atop another.
Built in the 13th century, the castle today serves as an archaeological museum, displaying artifacts from the Bronze and Iron Ages, primarily collected from the Lunigiana region—a historic area between Tuscany and Liguria.
