This city gate, one of three original entrances, is the only one that has survived from the medieval period. It was part of the city’s fortifications and was renovated during the Venetian rule. Another transformation occurred after the fall of the Venetian Republic and the arrival of French control, during which efforts were made to erase all traces of Venetian influence. Today, it stands as an elegant and visually pleasing gate that leads into the historic city center.
