Porta Rugo (Rugo Gate)

tel: +39-0437 913111

Address: Via Santa Croce, ., 32100 Belluno

This gate served as the southern entrance to the city. Beneath it flows the Piave River, which was a trade route for goods moving from northern Europe southward to the Po Valley. Near the river developed the Piave district, home to merchants and sailors who drove the local economy. In this district stands the Church of San Nicolò, named after the patron saint of sailors. The church was originally built in the 13th century and underwent renovations and modifications until reaching its current appearance in 1861.
