Address: Piazza Venezia, 00186

A unique square and a major traffic hub in the city. The most eye-catching feature is the white monument, Il Vittoriano, built after the unification of Italy and dedicated to King Victor Emmanuel II, who unified the country. On the western side stands the Palazzo Venezia, which once served as the embassy of the maritime republic, and from whose balcony the dictator Mussolini addressed cheering crowds in the 1930s. On the eastern side stands the building of the insurance company Generali.

Several streets branch out from the square — one leads to the Roman Forum and the Colosseum (Via dei Fori Imperiali), and another to the famous shopping street Via del Corso. During the day, the square is bustling with traffic, and at night, the fully illuminated Vittoriano is an impressive sight.
