Piazza Navona

Address: Piazza Navona, 00186

One of the most famous squares in Rome. It is unique for its oval shape, a remnant of a Roman-era hippodrome, the remains of which can be seen at the northern entrance to the square. At its center stands the impressive Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini, a travertine masterpiece created in tribute to the family of Pope Pamphilj. On the eastern side is the Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone, with its magnificent façade, and to the south is the Embassy of Brazil. At both ends of the square are additional fountains, which give the entire square a refreshing atmosphere, even on hot days. In the evening, the square becomes a lively hub for artists, landscape and portrait painters, and street performers. An evening visit is highly recommended.
