Piazza Garibaldi

Address: P.za Giuseppe Garibaldi, 80142

Piazza Garibaldi is one of the most important and busiest squares in the city, as it houses Naples’ central train station — the third largest in Italy in terms of passenger traffic — including the regional train and the Circumvesuviana line.

The square came into being after the unification of Italy, with the construction of a new train station. Originally called Piazza della Stazione or della Ferrovia, it received its current name in 1891 along with the installation of the statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi.

The current station was completed in 1960 after the old station was demolished, and the square was significantly enlarged.

Today, the square serves as a major transportation hub — not only for trains but also for local and intercity bus lines. It includes a taxi stand, parking areas for city buses and private vehicles, and a metro station (Line 1) located at the heart of a pleasant shopping mall.

The area around the square is lined with hotels, bars, and restaurants.
