One of the most elegant squares in Italy. Entering the square from any alley or street corner opens the eyes wide with wonder. It is a harmonious combination of buildings and white stone paving.
The façade of Palazzo dei Capitani, the walls of San Francesco Church, the tables and chairs of Caffè Meletti, and the arches decorating the entire square all enhance the desire to linger and enjoy every moment of tranquility.
In 1507, the mayor decided that all buildings would be a single story, all structures the same height, bricks red, stone only of travertine, and windows in the same style. This uniformity has been preserved to this day.
