Palermo Cathedral

tel: +39-091.334373

Address: Via Vittorio Emanuele, 90134

A stunning and impressive structure. Throughout history, the site where the cathedral now stands has hosted ancient churches that were converted into mosques, and then reverted to Christianity with the Norman conquest in the 12th century.

After significant damage caused by an earthquake, the cathedral was rebuilt with grandeur and richness, aiming to rival the Cathedral of Monreale. The building combines various architectural styles and houses several remarkable artworks.

Its exterior blends harmoniously with the landscape of Palermo, clearly showcasing the Arab-Norman architectural style. The dome, dating from the 18th century, visibly reflects the stylistic differences of its period.

Inside, you’ll find the tombs of Frederick II and his wife Constance — among the greatest rulers of 13th-century Sicily. Constance’s crown is displayed in the church’s treasury room.
