An urban building located next to the Duomo, the Palazzo del Broletto was originally built alongside an older church on the site and served as a display of power by the city’s governor (Podestà) against the religious authority, the local archbishop. When the church was later expanded, part of the building had to be sacrificed.
On the ground floor, residents gathered for important discussions and the reading of city decisions, while on the upper floor, with its beautiful bifora windows, sat the city’s officials. Over the years, the building was converted into a theater, underwent renovations, and today it is owned by the city, hosting exhibitions and conferences.
