Palazzo d’Accursio (Palazzo Comunale)

tel: +39-051 219 3111

Address: Piazza Maggiore, 6, 40121 Bologna

On the western side of Piazza Maggiore stands a grand building, also known as Palazzo Comunale, with a prominent statue on its facade.

This is the statue of Pope Gregory XIII, a native of Bologna, who devised the Christian calendar still in use today — the Gregorian calendar, named after him.

The building itself, whose construction began in the 13th century, showcases a variety of architectural styles, reflecting the changes and additions made over the centuries.

Today, it functions as an art museum, and visitors can admire its design, which beautifully blends the old with the new.
