Museum of Memory

A fascinating museum opened in 2011, which tells the story of the local resistance that helped and saved Jews during World War II, while Nazi Germany occupied the area. The museum recounts the story of the bishop and local priests (who were later recognized as Righteous Among the Nations), the monasteries and nuns who hid Jews, and key figures on the German, American, and Italian sides. A special section is dedicated to Gino Bartali, the cyclist who participated in this resistance network.

It is an extremely moving museum, showcasing the ability to live in fraternity and generosity despite religious differences.
