Another town that was splendid during the Roman period and the Middle Ages, and was ruled by the Colonna family. One of its highlights is the Wine Fountain. On the first Sunday of October, the Grape Festival (Sagra dell’Uva) takes place, and at the town’s fountains, white fine wine flows instead of water. This is a long-standing reminder of the Catholic League’s victory over the Ottoman Empire in the famous Battle of Lepanto in 1571. On other days, it’s worth visiting the town center and the Basilica di San Barnaba, the most important religious site in the area.
