The charming and picturesque town of Limone sul Garda attracts tourists thanks to its lemon cultivation and limoncello production — but the name “Limone” actually holds a double meaning.

Historically, the area served as a “threshold” (Latin: Limen) between Brescia and the Bishopric of Trento. Over time, the word was altered to Limone, and in 1904, the town officially became known as Limone sul Garda.

Arriving by car or boat, you’ll spot from afar the famous lemon terraces, called Limonaia, which protect the lemon trees from harsh winds.
Lemons have been the main crop in the area for centuries due to their high vitamin content, but the region also grows olives, kumquats, and mandarins.

In the town center, it’s worth visiting the former town hall, now home to the Tourism Museum, which displays posters, photographs, and information about the town and the history of lemon cultivation.

From Limone, you can also enjoy a bike ride along a scenic path, heading either north or south.
