The second-largest lake in the Lazio region and one of the largest in Italy. It is circular in shape, with a circumference of 32 km.
It was formed as a result of tectonic volcanic activity hundreds of thousands of years ago, and its circular shape indicates that it is the crater of an ancient volcano.
Three towns are located on the lake’s shores: Bracciano, Anguillara Sabazia, and Trevignano Romano.
Since it serves as a water source for the city of Rome, it is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Italy and has been under protection since 1986. A large sewage system was built around it to prevent any contamination.
On the western side, there is a grassy beach called Riva di Polline.
In the south of the lake, there is an Italian Air Force museum, and nearby there is also a walking area within a wooded zone.
