The abbey, located in the square, is characterized by red bricks from the Forlì area (Rosso Forlivese).
It was named after Saint Mercuriale, who, according to tradition, was the first bishop of the city of Forlì at a time when a church stood outside the city limits in that area.
It is recommended to visit the abbey to see the sculpted marble portal, the impressive cloister, and the frescoes inside the church itself.
Also, be sure to look at the bell tower, which was taller in the past, but with the raising of the square’s pavement over the years, it lost some of its height. The spire at its top is unique compared to other bell towers.
