An impressive and ancient church. It was built in the 12th century by the admiral of the royal navy of the Norman King Roger II.
In the 16th century, a magnificent Baroque façade was added to the church.
The church is decorated with splendid Byzantine mosaics (such as the “Christ Pantocrator” in the dome) and other scenes from the New Testament. It preserves the Greek-Orthodox style of worship, as part of a complex of churches belonging to the Italo-Albanian rite.
