Galleria Alberto Sordi is located opposite Piazza Colonna on Via del Corso. The idea for its construction began as early as 1871, with about 70 proposals submitted, but none were accepted. Construction began in 1911, and the gallery was inaugurated in 1922, originally called Galleria Colonna.

After the death in 2003 of the famous Italian actor and comedian Alberto Sordi, a native of Rome and one of the city’s icons, the gallery was renamed in his honor following the completion of renovation works. Today, the gallery houses shops, well-known fashion brands, and cafés, and is owned by a real estate and investment fund.
