Address: Corso Duomo, 41121 Modena

The Duomo, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Saint Geminianus
(Cattedrale Metropolitana di Santa Maria Assunta e San Geminiano), was built on the burial site of the saint whose remains are kept in the church’s crypt.

The church stands out with its Romanesque style, featuring recessed arches in the walls, columns supporting the central balcony, and above all, a bell tower rising above the city’s rooftops, 86 meters tall, known as the “Ghirlandina.”

Inside the church, the red stones of the walls stand out, along with numerous works of art such as frescoes, paintings, and sculptures.
