Church of Santa Maria Nuova

tel: +39-329/9713539

Address: Piazza S. Maria Nuova, 4

Another church beloved by the locals. In the past, it housed the treasures of the people of Viterbo and served as a place for their gatherings. Legend has it that a temple built by Hercules originally stood here, although the figure above the entrance likely points to a temple dedicated to Jupiter.

Before entering, take note of the pulpit in the corner of the building, which was used by Tommaso d’Aquino in the 13th century. Inside, it is recommended to visit the fascinating cloister, discovered only in 1954, as well as the many artworks adorning the walls.
