Chiesa di San Francesco

This church represents the religious part of Piazza del Popolo. The entrance is not from the square itself, but from Via Trivia. In 1215, Saint Francis visited the area, stayed there due to illness, and over time his followers decided to establish a community, followed by the construction of a Franciscan church (1285).

The church has three entrances, with the main entrance on the west side, each impressive in its own right. On the south side, facing the square, there is a statue of Julius II, who expelled a local family that had taken control of the city. The interior of the church is simple, in a Romanesque-Gothic style.
