The Duomo of Ferrara (dating from the 12th–14th centuries) is an impressive structure. Its façade is a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles, composed of three sculpted and carved marble sections. The entrance gate features a rounded arch, with columns on either side that resemble two guards. Above the entrance is a balcony with Saint George, the city’s patron saint, to whom the church is dedicated. All the sculptures on the façade depict the story of the Last Judgment, creating a rich and lively appearance. Inside the church, the dominant style is Baroque, a result of renovations following a fire that broke out in the 17th century.
