The Old Fortress – this is the name of the castle standing on the banks of the Adige River. It is easily reached via Via Roma. It was built in the 14th century by order of Cangrande II of the Scaliger family, the rulers of Verona at the time. Today, it is one of the most important museums in northern Italy, housing collections of art from various historical periods.
A tour of the site feels like a journey back in time, as visitors can explore not only the interior of the fortress but also the surrounding walls overlooking the river and the rest of the city. Exhibits include works from the Roman era, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance, featuring paintings, weapons, armor, jewelry, and sculptures.
