Archaeological Park of Neapolis, SIRACUSA

tel: +39-0931-489511

Address: Via del Teatro Greco, 96100 Siracusa

A highly recommended site to visit. The archaeological park of the “new city” – Neapolis – is located where the public buildings of the Greek city once stood, followed by the Roman city. Here you can find a Greek theater and a Roman amphitheater, a massive altar for sacrifices, and a huge quarry carved by slaves, which today is an orange grove ideal for a stroll. Nearby is the cave known as the “Ear of Dionysius,” named for the hole in its ceiling that allowed the tyrants of Syracuse to eavesdrop on the slaves’ conversations. A guided tour is highly recommended to fully appreciate the site.
