The Stadium of the Statues was built between 1928 and 1932 by order of Mussolini and was inaugurated as the Stadio dei Marmi.
It is located in the northern part of Rome, inside the Foro Italico, and was originally conceived as an extension of the Fascist Academy of Physical Education, serving as the daily training ground for its students.
Over the years, it has been used as a venue for training and competitions by some of Italy’s greatest athletes. Since September 12, 2013, it has been named after Pietro Mennea, the Italian sprinter who held the 200-meter world record for 17 years.
