The Tiber River crosses the city, and on its banks the she-wolf is said to have found the twins Romulus and Remus. Sailing along it on one of the tourist boats can be a refreshing change from the many kilometers of walking through the city.
In 2016, a large and impressive piece of street art by South African artist William Kentridge, called “Triumphs and Laments”, was inaugurated. The exact location is between the bridges Ponte Sisto and Ponte Mazzini, and the drawings tell the story of the Eternal City – between its glorious history on the one hand and its moments of defeat on the other.
The project stretches 550 meters along the walls and is composed of about 80 figures, each up to 10 meters high. Truly remarkable and unique.
