The Beaches of Reggio Calabria

The beaches of Reggio Calabria, beyond the city’s central coastline, stretch from the Ionian Sea to the Tyrrhenian Sea, covering a distance of 220 km and featuring diverse landscapes. Some are sandy beaches, others have coves, and some are strewn with pebbles.

In the northern part of the province, around Palmi, begins a stunning stretch of coastline known as Costa Viola (“the Violet Coast”), named for its vivid colors. These beaches, protected by the Aspromonte mountain range, are less known to tourists.

One family-friendly beach is Tonnara di Palmi, a large, wide, and peaceful beach ideal for relaxation. South of Palmi is Bagnara Calabra, featuring white sandy beaches, Liberty-style houses along the shore, and sea caves that can be visited by boat, such as Grotta Delle Rondini and Grotta Del Monaco.

Along the Ionian Sea, Spiaggia di Roccella Ionica has been awarded the Blue Flag (Bandiera Blu), a recognition for high-quality, clean waters, making it a highly recommended beach to visit.
