“The Shaded Forest” — this is the meaning of the name of the woodland area at the heart of the Gargano promontory. Foresta Umbra is the jewel of the entire national park, home to a wide variety of vegetation such as pine, oak, chestnut, and fir trees. It also provides a habitat for wildlife including deer, wild boar, wildcats, birds, and other species.
Visitors can enjoy numerous well-marked hiking trails of varying difficulty, cycling routes for two-wheel enthusiasts, an open-air wooden sculpture museum, a small lake, and, of course, picnic areas.
