Corniglia

The name Corniglia comes from the family that owned the land during the Roman period, Colono Romano Corneliu, and they were probably the first in the area to produce the famous local wine. The town is unique because of its location. It is the only town without direct access from the sea, sitting on a cliff about 100 meters above sea level. To reach it, you must climb 377 steps from the train station or take the winding paved road, Via Stazione. Both routes eventually lead to a point near the local church, Chiesa di San Pietro, the oldest church in the area, dating back to the 14th century.

It’s also worth visiting the Oratorio di Santa Caterina, which offers a scenic viewpoint. If you’re craving a quiet seaside, there is Spiaggione, a long pebble beach accessible via a narrow, winding road from the main road connecting the towns.
