Piazza and Fountain of Pretoria

Address: Piazza Pretoria90133

The city’s most famous square and one of its iconic landmarks. At its center stands a fountain known as the “Fountain of Shame” (Fontana della Vergogna) — a nickname it earned during its unveiling ceremony, when it was revealed that the statues adorning it were completely nude.

The sight was considered scandalous and inappropriate for passersby, especially for the nuns living in the nearby convent.

Today, the fountain is an impressive and beautifully restored feature, and a visit is highly recommended — especially at night, when it’s illuminated.

Surrounding the square are Palermo’s City Hall and the Church of Santa Caterina, whose interior design is stunning, richly decorated with paintings, frescoes, and carvings covering the walls and ceilings.
