Bari Vecchia (Old Bari)

Address: Bari Vecchia

The old part of Bari, recommended for walking tours, is called Bari Vecchia. It’s a maze of picturesque narrow streets that, on one hand, had fallen into neglect over the years but has recently experienced a cultural and culinary revival. The area is close to the sea and is bordered on one side by the city walls, on another by Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and on the third by a large fortress. There are many official churches and improvised places of worship in this part of town, so the tour can alternate between glimpses of small prayer houses like the Chiesa San Marco dei Veneziani and scenes of Italian “mamas” preparing their characteristic pasta, called Le Orecchiette (ear-shaped pasta), right on their doorsteps.
