Villa Farnesina

tel: +39-06 68 02 72 68

Address: Via della Lungara, 230, 00165

A villa that is a true tribute to fresco painting and Renaissance architecture. The villa was built in the 16th century for the wealthy banker Agostino Chigi. Chigi also commissioned some of the finest painters to decorate it, among them Raphael. The paintings that adorn its walls and vaulted ceilings feature mythological allegories. Raphael painted the fresco depicting the love of Cupid and Psyche, as well as the wall painting known as The Triumph of Galatea. The artist Baldassare Peruzzi, who was also the villa’s architect, decorated the entrance hall with frescoes that create the illusion of a cityscape in the background.
