A mistake during excavation led to a major discovery! In 1989, while digging in Piazza Ferrari for expansion works, an ancient wall, a mosaic floor, ancient coins, and medical instruments were accidentally uncovered. The work was halted, and eventually an amazing archaeological site was established, centered around the mosaic floor depicting a surgeon. The house itself, according to the findings, belonged to a doctor of Greek origin who settled there and treated wounded soldiers. The site, arranged in an exemplary manner and even covered, allows visitors to see the fascinating mosaic floor. At the nearby city museum, you can view all the artifacts — about 150 items — showcasing the world of medicine during the Roman period. Incidentally, during the excavations, it was discovered that over the years the site also served as a vegetable garden and a cemetery.
