Palazzo dei Diamanti

tel: +39-0532 244949

Address: Corso Ercole I d'Este, 21, 44121 Ferrara

The walls of the Palazzo dei Diamanti gave it its name—Diamonds. The building is covered in sharply carved stone blocks that create a geometric illusion and fascinating plays of light—just like diamonds. This was exactly the intention of architect Biagio Rossetti in the late 15th century, when Ercole d’Este, ruler of Ferrara, commissioned the palace as part of his plan to expand the city. Inside the impressive palace is a cloister with a central well. The site hosts several exhibitions—one is the Gallery of Modern Art (Galleria d’Arte Moderna), and on the first floor is the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Ferrara, a collection of valuable artworks. In addition, rotating international exhibitions are regularly held here.
