A magical street in Ferrara well worth a visit. A romantic, mysterious path that, in the evening, is lit with a warm yellow glow that adds to its atmosphere. Volte refers to the arches that line the 2-kilometer stretch of the street. In the past, the street was very lively, filled with shops, artists’ studios, inns, and also less respectable activities such as pickpocketing, prostitution, and even murders—though these were, of course, in medieval times. The street also served as a residential area for traveling merchants working across Italy and was considered a sought-after location. Today, it is less active, with only a few trattorias and small cafés remaining, but the quiet charm of this street—away from the crowds and city center—still invites visitors in.
