An important art gallery in the city and one of the most beautiful in northern Italy. It houses the finest paintings by Bologna artists or those who worked in the city. Among the paintings on display are a single work by Giotto, paintings by Vitale da Bologna from the 14th–15th centuries, and a painting by Raphael (The Sistine Madonna). The gallery is located not far from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Bologna, surrounded by bars, restaurants, workers, and bookstores.
