Known as “The New Castle,” it got its name because there were already two other castles in the city, which were not sufficient for the French royal family, the House of Anjou, in the 13th century. Therefore, a new castle was built — the “Nuovo.”
The prominent white triumphal arch at the entrance actually symbolizes the next ruling family in Naples, which came from Aragon in Spain.
Today, the palace serves as a museum. Visitors can explore the Palatine Chapel, the oldest room in the castle, and the ‘Sala dei Baroni’ hall, which is still used by the city council for meetings.
Of course, there is also a stunning view from the upper floors overlooking the entire Bay of Naples.
