The Pertosa Caves are located near the town of the same name. After a short drive through the mountains, you reach the site which begins at the Negro River (Fiume Negro), and continues into a cave with stalactites and stalagmites.
The site was used during the Greek and Roman periods as a place of worship. Today, it’s recommended to visit with a guided tour, accompanied by the atmosphere of Dante’s Divine Comedy.
A small anecdote: there is graffiti left by brigade fighters who visited the site during the war.
