Sorrento is built alongside a 45-meter-high cliff above sea level. It was a favored retreat for the Romans during Rome’s hot and humid summer months, and today many residents of the Campania region—as well as tourists from around the world—flock to its beaches and use it as a base for regional travel.
The most famous of these routes is the stunning Amalfi Coast, which connects Sorrento to Amalfi.
The town center is very pleasant, full of shops and charming historical corners.
Don’t miss the local pizza and the signature dish Gnocchi alla Sorrentina.
