The Etna Museum, also known as the Lava Museum, tells the story of the formidable molten lava that rises from deep within the earth and erupts from the volcano’s crater.
If you are already in Catania, at the foot of Mount Etna, it is well worth visiting. Through photographs, exhibits, and video presentations, the museum explains the origins of lava, its impact on the environment, and how people continue to cope with this natural phenomenon today.
Although not large, the museum offers a comprehensive journey—from the earth’s depths, through the volcanic eruption itself, to the lasting formations that remain for millions of years.
The museum is open Monday to Saturday in the morning, or by special booking for groups of at least 15 people.
